In addition, I also work with his sisters, age 9 (also ASD) and age 13, covering their PE curriculum for 6 hours each week.
We work within the Self Design system, and I feel very well equipped to take on any level of home-schooling, and well able to adapt to any education platform that is being used.
I have been both an undergraduate and post graduate university lecturer, and have a long career as an educator.
I am also qualified as an ESL teacher. As it was known then: Cambridge Royal Society of Arts Prep Cert - with distinction. Now called the CELTA.
Senior Care Duties
My role is to provide respite care for the Elder's son and grandaughter, so I am on duty 50 hours a week to help manage the care of their grand/mother.
She suffered a catastrophic stroke a year ago, and the family's choice has been to have her at home rather than in a care facility.
My duties include:
Management of 3 of the 4 daily caregiver visits from Fraser Health
Touch point disinfection after each visit
Liaising with her FH Case Manager
Instructing new caregivers of the care routine
Preparing and serving meals
Keeping supplies in stock
Hoist, sling and wheelchair
I have absolutely loved caring for this woman.
Although the stroke has left her paralysed and with aphasia (inability to speak), this Elder has the most cracking sense of humour and our days are spent with much laughter.
For someone who cannot talk - she is the most astute communicator, and we have many shared jokes.
Time spent with her has been my good fortune, not least in bearing witness to her great fortitude in coping with the disabilities that cut her from her full busy life, and from her painting.
I shall miss her greatly.
I am particularly grateful for the opportunity this has given me to gain a much more in-depth understanding of BC Healthcare , and in particular to have learned so much about home healthcare provision.
It has been an honour to work with all the front-line caregivers who have reinforced to me the very great power of kindness and compassion,
and to all the administrative staff who have so patiently taught me to understand the Health Service's structures and procedures.
